New Director of Scientific Projects to drive user success at Gefion AI supercomputer

The Danish Centre for AI Innovation A/S (DCAI) is pleased to appoint Ulrik Nicolai de Lichtenberg as the new Director of Scientific Projects. In this pivotal role, de Licenberg will be responsible for engaging with the scientific and AI community to help drive the success of AI projects on the Gefion supercomputer. His focus will be on fostering a vibrant user community, coordinating resources for customers, and gathering valuable feedback to guide the future development of DCAI’s technology and services.
DCAI’s success is directly tied to the success of its customers and their ability to accelerate AI innovation using the Gefion supercomputer. At DCAI, de Lichtenberg will lead a team of experts dedicated to providing high-quality scientific support and access to cutting-edge AI tools on the Gefion platform. The team will assist with everything from AI software to services, creating a cost-efficient and seamless experience for customers. Additionally, the team will cultivate a dynamic and engaged Gefion user community to facilitate knowledge sharing and networking across academia, industry, and the public sector.
Ulrik Nicolai de Lichtenberg brings a wealth of experience to DCAI, holding a MSc in Engineering and a PhD in Bioinformatics from DTU. He has over 25 years of expertise in data science, AI, data management, research IT, and biomedical research form both academia and industry, including many years serving as Head of Research Informatics and Data Management at LEO Pharma, where he managed a comprehensive portfolio of systems and services supporting research operations. More recently, he worked six years at the Novo Nordisk Foundation, where he played a key strategic role in major AI and data science initiatives, including in the scoping and design of the Gefion AI supercomputer project.

I have always had a passion for science and technology and look forward to leveraging my extensive network within data science, AI and the natural- and medical sciences to help nurture a culture of collaboration and synergy among the users of Gefion and across the AI ecosystem at large”, de Lichtenberg reflects on his new position.
